How does THE BOSS work? Your dog wears THE BOSS, 3 in 1 collar as it's regular collar every day. When wanted, ie when you want to take your dog for a walk, You may transform the collar into a headcollar or choke collar. It's just as easy to use as any other headcollar (ie: Gentle Leader or Halti) on the market. Every order will get a free online instructional video.
How does a Head collar work? Works by putting light pressure on your dog's muzzle and at the back of the neck; replicating the way a "pack leader" gently yet firmly grasps a subordinate's muzzle in his mouth. This sends a clear signal to the dog that YOU are THE BOSS. It leads by the nose so the dog will follow. The collar has a nose loop and a neck collar. Your leash attaches to nose loop underneath jaw. When dog pulls, the collar transfers the motion into turning his head which sends him a negative signal. Just like a Gentle Lead or Halti, THE BOSS discourages pulling, lunging, jumping and simplifies training
Is it a Muzzle? No. When fitted properly, your dog may open his mouth to eat, drink, pant,and bark - except when you pull on the leash to close his mouth. But it can help you to prevent fighting while on lead because you have control of him. Also stop unwanted barking with a simple pull of the lead to close your dog's mouth
Why is THE BOSS better than other collars? Your dog always has it on, so you will always have your training device with you. Never forget it again. Once your dog learns not to pull you can switch him back to the regular collar or choke collar. Teaching your dog faster not to pull!
What if my dog doesn't like the Head collar / Muzzle lead? Some dogs will accept a headcollar easily, others need to learn to wear it. If your dog is resistant put it on for 5-10 minutes, during which give him praise and feed him treats. When walking keep the dog moving, remember your in control. It's common for dogs to protest the first time they wear a Headcollar. Don’t be shocked if they throw a temper tantrum or paw their face. Always remember you are in control of your dog, you‘re THE BOSS. If your dog is resisting the Headcollar: best thing to do is keep the dog moving. If dog tries to take the collar off keep it's head up. If you've ordered one follow instructions for dealing with a resistant dog.
How do I teach my dog "SIT" ? Take a small kibble sized treat and conceal it in your closed hand/fist. (If your dog isn’t food motivated, try training when she’s hungry or use a favorite toy instead). Hold your hand approximately one inch in front of the dog’s nose. Many dogs will look at and/or sniff your hand. Once your dog has clearly noticed your hand, slowly move it up over the top of the dog’s head. As you move your hand, be sure to keep it no further than an inch or so from the dog. Most dogs will follow your hand with their head. This will cause the dog’s weight to shift backwards, at which point he will probably sit. As soon as the dog starts to sit, begin praising. The instant the dog sits, say "sit" and reward with the treat or toy.
How do I use THE BOSS to teach "SIT"? THE BOSS head collar can help to aid "SIT". To do this, follow the above directions with these extra steps: In one hand, hold the leash close to the connection point (where the O-ring and your leash are connected). As you bring your hand (with treat or toy) over the top of the dog’s head, gently pull the leash out in front of the dog then gently move the leash up and very slightly back to make your dog’s muzzle lift up. This will cause his weight to shift backwards, at which point he should sit. As soon as the dog starts to sit, begin praising. The instant the dog sits, say "sit" and reward with the treat or toy.
